Challenge

Our client, a payment services provider, was preparing for a strategic business acquisition involving the target company’s IP. This included a mobile app that could extend the client’s key digital offering.

To fully assess the app’s development potential, they needed to conduct an independent technology evaluation. This included gaining insight into its licensing, quality, lifecycle, and maintenance aspects – as well as identifying any risks, dependencies, and requirements to consider.

Solution

Asteroid reviewed the application using an established methodology consisting of interviews, static code analysis using automated tooling, and hands-on expert evaluation of the codebase, system architecture, and development practices.

The evaluation included analysis of third-party dependencies to identify licensing risks, outdated libraries, and potential security vulnerabilities. We also audited the QA and testing ecosystem, assessing the maturity of automated testing to ensure long-term stability and ease of future maintenance.

Results

The review was completed within the estimated timeline. We presented a report covering key qualitative and quantitative findings, enabling the client to make an informed decision about moving forward with the acquisition.

The assessment provided clear visibility into the application’s technical quality, risks, and future development requirements, helping the client better understand the effort needed for integration and further development.
